Khalid Jalal is a rare artist. Draftsman, caricaturist, press cartoonist, painter, calligrapher, graphic designer, art director, videographer, he works for newspapers, illustrates books, holds exhibitions. An all-round artist : The Artist ! We met him where he lives and works today: Dubai.
– What is your artistic background or experience?
– I had an interest in painting since I was a child, I had experimented with different types of colors and painting tools. I used to draw a lot on various subjects, so I held three individual art exhibitions of my artwork while I was a high school student, before I studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1979.
During my undergraduate studies and beyond, I worked in the fields of various arts in addition to drawing artistic paintings, such as drawing caricatures for newspapers and magazines, producing cartoons, designing and layout books and magazines, designing and drawing backgrounds and caricatures for TV programs.
– Why did you choose to settle in Dubai?
– After I expanded on drawing advertising animated films, I received an offer to draw films for a production company in Dubai, and after I completed those films, I received an invitation from a production company in Dubai to come here and work in the year 1988.
– What are your artistic activities in general ?
– I always loved learning new things in the field of arts, so this made me diversify my artistic interests and not focus on one field. In addition to paintings, I started drawing caricatures for newspapers and magazines, then the matter developed in my career path, so I started working in the field of animation. And that was in parallel with my work as a comprehensive graphic designer, in the field of designing and producing books, magazines, and publications, and on another level in the field of producing and editing video, motion graphics, and creating content for social media.
– How do you define yourself as an artist and in what artistic field do you find yourself ?
– In fact, you can call me the comprehensive artist or the diversified one, because by virtue of my circumstances that I went through, I practiced all kinds of artistic works that I mentioned to you previously, and this is what gave me various skills and experiences, as we know that every artist focuses his efforts on one type of arts and specializes in it and excels. Later on, however, I did not focus on just one type, and I was working in all these various fields at one time, depending on the professional conditions that I was going through.
– What are your plans and ideas that you aspire to implement?
– I have a lot of artistic ideas and projects that I aspire to implement in the field of digital creative artistic content, but I am waiting for the right funder and partner so that I can implement these ideas and projects.
